jewelery making

Today we have had the BEST day, because Marg came at 9.30 and taught us how to make paua shell jewelery. We even put silver on it. First we designed on paper, then we chose our design and traced it on to sticky paper and put on the paua. We drove up to Margs house and she cut the shapes out. This part was really tricky. Then Marg used the diamon cutter to cut the shapes out in more detail. We weren't allowed to use this because it was VERY dangerous. It had water going onto it and poor Marg got her hands FREEZING! Then we used the sander inside and made it smooth. This took ages. We came back to school and traced our silver. We transfered this to sticky paper, and put it on the silver. Marg had to cut it out with a very sharp blade. We had to scratch the under side of the silver so it would stick and sand the edges. Then we got the glue and stuck our silver on. Marg took the pauas home with clamps on them so the silver sticks. Next week we are going to finish them.

Think fast run fast

On the last Thursday of term three it was cross country day . I was so excited in the car. When I got there I was shaking with nervousness. When it was Stephanies turn we kept on cheering for her. Then next was the 5 year old's turn. I cheered for Jessica Rose. Next it was Hannah's turn. I said "Wow look how fast Hannah can run". Then it was the 9 year olds race. I was shivering. "Boom!" went the bricks. I zoomed around the track and I passed ten people.

I came 10th. I was so proud of myself after my race.

Baking

Today we did baking. We baked DOUBLE CHOCOLATE CHIP MUFFINS yum yum!

Last night we went to The Festival of Song. When it came to our item I had a sore stomach. When we walked on stage children were laughing at us! They laughed at us because they could see the hats that we were behind our backs and the adults couldn't. When it was the end of the show I was very nervous because I had to go up in front of everyone to give Miss Carpinter some flowers. Then Miss Carpinter have me a hug. When I went back to my seat a girl behind me said that when I went up I looked cute!

By Melissa

On Thursday we went to the Festival of Song. It was fun and I was a bit scared. When we went up on stage I felt a bit scared and we did a song and it was called The Silly Hat Store and I felt so proud of myself.

By Zoe

At the festival of Songs for our item we sang the silly hat store. I'm going to write a poem? ...

I was so proud
and a bit scarred too
BUT I had great fun.
There were heaps of songs that we had to sing.

By Stephanie

Last night we went to the music festival. As the car got closer and closer to the gymnasium the nervouser I got. On the way there I was excited. We performed a song called the Silly Hat Store. I got stage fright but I still sang the song. I was really thirsty and it felt like I was going to dehydrate. Whe n it was our turn to perform I said in my head oh no I can't do this but I did. I was proud of myself. On the way home I was tired but excited.

Today Bronwyn from St Johns came and taught us how to keep safe and help people in an emergency. Jessica learnt how to call for an ambulance on the telephone - we dial 1 1 1 slowly and ask for the service we need. Stephanie learnt how to keep safe by putting a bandage on someones hand. Hannah learnt to put a burn under cold water for 20 minutes. If the burn is bigger than your hand you need medical help now! Amelia learnt it is important to keep the patient calm and reassure them.
Zoe learnt how to manage her bleeding noses by holding the bottom of her nose and putting her head forward.
Amelia has fake blood on her hand. She needed to put some pressure on her hand to stop the bleeding. Then Bronwyn bandaged it with the big pressure pad still there.

About Friday

We really enjoy reading people's comments on our blog. Keep writing great comments for us to read. Today we had a finishing off day and finished our Dr Suess pictures. Amelia is painting her life size picture of herself because she was away when we did ours. We finished off our learning style questionnaire so we know how best we learn AND we made museli and honey muffins. This afteroon, in the not very nice weather, we tidyed up our garden and planted some new polyanthus and something else and now we have forgotten it's name. But there is a pretty blue one and a white one. Our garden looks heaps better now. We split up all our strawberry plants as well so hopefully in the summer we will have strawberries every day. Yum yum!
Poor Stepahnie still has the chicken pox so we hope she gets better over the weekend and is back to school on Monday. Please DON'T let anyone else get the chicken pox.
