Shanty Town

We got to dress up in olden day clothes, like children would have dressed like 100yrs ago when we went to Shanty Town. At Shanty Town we went on a steam train, visited an old mill, panned for gold, went to China Town and made damper bread. We had a great day even though it did rain at times. It was the best camp ever on the Westcoast!

In Ross on the Westcoast

I am a gold robber because I stole Josh's gold!

Mining for Coal

I am shoveling coal into a coal cart. It was really hard work and dusty. It was vary dark inside the coal mine. You could hear creaky and rats scurrying around!

Feeding the Eels in Hokitika

I liked feeding the eels at the Hokitika Kiwi Centre. You can tell the long fin eels from the short fin eels by the way their skin wrinkles when they bend. The eels I was feeding were between 80 and 125yrs old. They are born in the Tonga Trenches.
